TITLE WATCH: STOCKTON 99 TO CROWN SEVERAL CHAMPIONS

STOCKTON, Calif. – Championship fights at the Stockton 99 Speedway will come to an end Saturday in Championship Night One with several drivers poised to make history.  

Kayci Phillips of Stockton and Ripon’s own Henk Gaalswyk are set to add their names onto the list of champions at the historic racetrack. Though both drivers enter with more than a 20-point advantage, double points will be awarded after each race, leaving the door open for competitors.

Phillips, the daughter of ARCA champion Mike David, has never won a track title. She leads the 2024 Legend runner-up and defending feature winner Wyatt Sansom going into the final race.

As for Gaalswyk, he’s a third generation driver from Ripon who picked up his first career victory in this same event last season. The Pro Late Model points leader is blazing the path set by his uncle, John Gaalswyk, who claimed the title in 1999 for the Stockton Late Models.

Stockton’s Mason Begthel is another driver without a track title but set to claim their first. Beghtel enters the Pure Stock feature with a slight edge over Sam Reynolds of Lockeford.

Nor Cal Mini Stocks competition has been dominated by Stockton driver Ethan Rumsey as of late. Rumsey notched eight victories in the past 11 races, recording an average finish of 1.45.

The Fast Kar Solutions Mini Modifieds features the tightest battle of the weekend, with less than 15 points between the top two. Fresno native Patrick Geiger enters ahead of Freddy Irvin of Modesto as the duo duels in a fight for the checkered flag and the championship trophy.

The Mini Modified division will race again on October 18 for the season finale.

Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and admission gates at 5 p.m. Opening ceremonies kick off at 6 p.m. with feature racing to follow.

Adult tickets are $20 while ages 11-15, seniors, and military members with ID can get tickets for $15. Children under the age of 10 and parking are free.
